Muscle relaxant injections

Anti-wrinkle injections in the face:

All treatments are carried out by Dr Rhys who can provide you with safe treatments and real results.

Over time, as the sun damages your skin, the temporary wrinkles that form on your face when you move your facial muscles may become more permanent. This can cause you to look stern, tired or angry even when the underlying muscles are still. This happens because the sun degrades your skin so much that it loses natural elasticity.

Botulinum toxin is a prescription medicine that is injected to relax the muscles beneath, preventing the creation of dynamic lines and wrinkles with age.

What can be treated?

The common applications are:

  • Frown lines

  • Crow’s feet lines around eyes

  • Forehead lines

  • Eyebrow lifting

  • Bunny lines

  • Droopy mouth corners

  • Gummy smile

  • Smoking lines around the mouth

How does the treatment work?

The treatment involves injecting under the skin which paralyses (relaxes or freezes) certain facial muscles to give a smoother, more youthful appearance to the skin.

Is anti wrinkle treatment safe?

Dr Rhys is medically qualified doctor and is fully trained to perform these injections.  These injections have been practiced for many years and there is lots of medical data showing that they are safe. As with any medical procedure, it doesn’t come without risks and Dr Rhys will discuss these with you during your consultation.

How do I know if I qualify for anti-wrinkle injections?

Before any treatment, Dr Rhys will consult with you about your needs, desires. He will manage your expectations, and advise if wrinkle-smoothing injections is the route to take.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure takes around 10 minutes, depending on how many injection sites are needed.

How long does it take to achieve results?

The complete results can take up to 7 days. Dr Rhys will always suggest that you return for a ‘top-up’ about a fortnight after treatment, if needed.

How long to the effects last?

The longevity varies, but usually the results last between 3 and 6 months.

Is there any post treatment care?

For at least 24 hours following treatment, we recommend you avoid:

·       rubbing your face

·       bending forward

·       strenuous physical exercise.

Any of these might cause the injected product to spread to unwanted areas, or lead to a ‘drooping’ effect in the eyelid. In the unlikely event that this does occur, we can supply drops that should rectify the problem.

Non - Surgical Jaw reduction:

Dr Rhys offers muscle relaxant treatments to reduce jaw size and excessive teeth grinding. A wide jaw can create a square shaped lower face. While a square jaw may be desirable in men, it is not a feminine feature.

If you place your hands at the angle of your jaw as you clench your teeth down, you will feel the bulging and hardness of a muscle. This muscle, called the masseter muscle, is often a primary cause of the excessive jaw width and teeth grinding.

Muscle relaxant injections weaken the corner part of the muscle, reducing  teeth grinding. The injection can also significantly reduce the size of this muscle and narrow the lower part of the face. The cheekbone also become highlighted, adding definition and contour to the face.

Gummy Smile treatment:

Smile confidently with a small Botulinum toxin injection for gummy smile treatment. All treatments are carried out by Dr Rhys.

Gummy Smile is when some people smile, their upper lip elevates far above their upper teeth, exposing the gums. This happens due to several causes.

One of the causes is hyperactive muscles elevating the upper lip. Occasionally, the gummy smile is also exacerbated by a thin upper lip that further contributes to the problem by exposing the upper gum even more. Fortunately, gummy smile can be simply and effectively corrected by Botulinum toxin injections to reduce the activity of the muscle that elevates the upper lip.

The Procedure:

Prior to treatment:

A full medical consultation will be completed to confirm your suitability for the treatment . Dr Rhys may examine your ability to move certain muscles to determine location, size and use of the muscles that cause the area of concern. The desired results will then be discussed and a treatment plan will be created.

Treatment:

A small amount of Botulinum toxin will be injected at both sides of the junction of nostril and nose to mouth fold to weaken the muscles. Within the next 3-10 days, elevation of the upper lip will gradually become less and your new smile is transformed! You will show less gum and have much more confidence to smile without inhibition. The full result will be achieved 2 weeks after the treatment.

Post treatment:

Avoid touching, massaging or apply cosmetics or creams to the area for 6 hours. This will reduce risk of infection. All aftercare instructions will be discussed with you before the treatment by our Clinic Coordinator.
