Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are an effective treatment for facial rejuvenation and for revitalising area of the body.  They can help to provide volume and reduce deep lines and wrinkles, fill hollows and smooth out contours on your face.

Are dermal fillers safe?

The fillers are based on hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring sugar in the body.

Facial dermal fillers have had a significant rise in their application for aesthetic reasons, namely to help correct skin conditions which develop as a result of ageing – such as creases, lack of volume, unsightly folds and moderate-to-deep wrinkles.

Since these components are used on human skin, which is highly sensitive and reactive to different materials, facial dermal fillers must always be tested for safety and effectiveness.

What areas can be treated?

During Dr Rhys’s consultation he will discuss the best treatment options for you, but the common areas that are treated are: Cheeks, Naso-labial folds, lips, chin, jawline, tear troughs & temples.

Do dermal filler injections hurt?

As with many treatments nowadays, dermal fillers are relatively painless.

Many contain an anaesthetic within the product itself.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment should not last more than half an hour. Afterwards, you should be able to return to your normal, daily activities.

You will need to take into consideration any advice that the doctor has given you for aftercare and management.

What are the side effects?

Some mild swelling, bruising or redness in injection sites is normal. However, if you have any concerns you must call your practitioner.

What do I need to do for aftercare?

After your dermal filler treatment, we recommend the following.

·       Don’t apply make up for 12 hours – unless you’re using a mineral powder-based make up.

·       Only use perfume-free moisturiser if you have any dry skin.

·       If you have had lip augmentation – don’t drink anything too hot or cold.

How long will the effects last?

The effects usually last between 6 months and 1 year, but can last up to 18 months depending on the area treated.

We will discuss the effects in more detail during your initial consultation with the practitioner.

How will I know if dermal fillers are for me?

Before any treatment, Dr Rhys will consult with you about your needs, desires. He will manage your expectations, and advise if dermal fillers are the route to take.
